About SCBI
Who We Are
Officially, Stray Cat Blues, Inc. is a no-kill, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization providing rescue and placement to stray and feral cats. Personally, SCB is a small group of dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to find loving, life-long homes for abandoned cats. We are professional in our practices, but we are emotional on the subject of homeless cats, and the ways in which we humans can work to prevent this epidemic of strays.
Stray Cat Blues actively works to recruit permanent homes for the stray cats in our program. All the animals are screened for feline leukemia, inoculated, sterilized and wormed when they first come to us. Healthy, adoptable cats are then housed through our network of foster homes. Our kittens and cats are exposed to the pet-loving public at our 5 different adoption cage locations to facilitate adoptions and to provide visibility for the organization.
In addition to placement of sociable cats and kittens, a major focus of Stray Cat Blues is to place feral and unsociable cats in qualified barn homes. Like our house cats, our barn cats are delivered to their new homes by a Stray Cat Blues volunteer. We provide our barn cats with a cozy "cat condominium" to live in for the first few weeks of life in their new location. The crate allows the cats to acclimate to their new home without the danger of having them run away in search of their old stomping grounds.
We are willing to go to great lengths for our cats - quite literally! We will gladly travel to approved barn homes within an approximate 125 mile radius of the Lansdale and Montgomeryville area to deliver our helpful mousers.
Most of our cats are strays and their offspring that are rescued from area locations. Many of these strays are more than willing to be helped by our volunteers. But for those animals that are more wary of humans, especially the feral cats, we utilize humane traps. Many of our kittens are born to mother cats that we have rescued.
Adopting a Friend
If you are interested in adopting, the first step is to file an application-(Click here to complete an application online.). Once we have that in hand, we will be better able to respond to your questions about particular cats or kittens.
As stated above, we do not have a public shelter but many of our adoptable cats can be seen at our adoption cage locations. Other cats still in foster homes can be seen through special arrangements with the foster caretakers. We are happy to respond to requests for information via phone or e-mail and will provide as much information as we can about the personalities and backgrounds of cats in which a potential adopter has interest. However, please remember to submit your application first.
Also, please note that our primary adoption efforts are focused in Montgomery and Bucks counties (Pennsylvania); but we will occasionally, and on a case-by-case basis, make placements in Chester, Delaware and Philadelphia counties.
Interested parties are required to complete a brief adoption application. This application serves us twofold. First, it allows us to assess the sincerity of the applicant through the fact that they took the time to complete the inquiry. Second, the application provides us with a veterinary referral and other pertinent background information. We require a $85.00 fee for adoptions. There is no charge for barn cats but a donation is very much appreciated. Donations assist in defraying the considerable costs of neutering, veterinary care and supplies such as food and litter. Donations are tax deductible. Upon adoption of a Stray Cat Blues cat, the new mom or dad must sign an adoption agreement, which includes a clause stating the cat must be returned to SCB should any problems arise with the adoptive home. We also conduct follow-up assessment to ensure that everything is going smoothly with the placement.
Declawing
Stray Cat Blues morally opposes declawing and prohibits the declawing of cats adopted through our organization. Occasionally, we acquire a cat that has already been declawed for which we seek a qualified indoor home. We advocate behavioral training as an alternative to declawing and urge anyone considering this traumatic procedure to reconsider. We welcome the opportunity to discuss this often controversial subject - please contact us.
Trapping
Stray Cat Blues is dedicated to helping cats in need whenever possible. Although space and financial limitations may prevent us from taking in every stray about which we are contacted, we will gladly offer advice and assistance to anyone seeking to trap a stray in their area for the purpose of helping the cat.
Trapping in an inhumane and irresponsible manner is abhorrent to us and certainly not condoned.
Volunteering and Donations
Stray Cat Blues welcomes interested volunteers. We have many areas in which volunteers can help, including caring for cats in our adoption cages, staffing the adoption center at PetsMart, fund raising, phone calls, fostering, rescuing strays, etc.
Please contact us to discuss your specific interests and our needs. We are also grateful for all donations, regardless of size. We have no paid staff so all donations go directly towards the care of our cats. Donations are fully tax deductible and can be mailed to us at:

Autumn Girl
This beautiful girl was abandoned in Perkasie. When she was rescued by SCBI, she was starving, had eye infections and after a full blood screening, was determined to be dangerously anemic. Fortunately, with proper vet care and a nutritious diet, Autumn Girl has returned to being a healthy, friendly and lovable kitten.
This is one very easy going and sweet kitty that is good at the vet's office and sits quietly when her nails are cut. She's very talkative and will seek petting and affection. She is the purrfect feline companion for loving human friends who will care for her and never again abandoned her.
She was not comfortable at first with other cats, but she's living in a foster home with 10 cats and after a proper introduction over a week's time, she quickly learned to mix and mingle with the other cats.
Autumn Girl tested negative for FIV and FeLv, she's spayed and up-to-date on all her vaccinations. Now she's just waiting for her forever home. Could it be with you?

Hi, I'm Wilma

I am now accepting applications for my permanent staff! Applicants must have a generous heart, a strong arm for brushing, an appreciation of beauty, a desire for lifetime commitment and a willingness to cater to my every wish.
My name is Wilma and I was born in May 2006 (even though a real lady doesn't reveal her age). I've blocked most of my past from my mind but believe me, I was living way below my standard. I do remember some nice people saving me from a tiny cage where I wasn't cared for properly and was underweight and dehydrated.
Since I expect everyone's full attention, I prefer to live in a house without other cats. Once you meet me, you wouldn't want to spend time with anyone but me anyway. I am very friendly and loving. I am petite as well as striking. My medium-long hair is gorgeous and although I take very good care of myself, I do appreciate nice long brushings and I do tell you when I've had enough. My temporary staff says my personality matches my looks and I'm beautiful inside and out.
If approved applicants want to meet me, I prefer to meet at my house or yours. I really don't like dealing with the riffraff at Petsmart and you won't see the real me there. For more information contact my current staff member at gilda.cellini@verizon.net or 610-864-8405.

Pattycake is estimated to be two years old as of 5/08. She was taken in by a disreputable 'rescue' She received no vet care and had horrible ear mites. Her left ear is crinkled due to shaking her head and causing a hematoma. A SCB volunteer saw her and she was literally screaming in pain and scratching a bloody groove into her other ear. She was taken in by SCB, spayed, given shots, tested and given medicine to kill the mites.
She is very sweet and is unique too! She is in the minority of 20% of cats that are orange females. Most orange cats are males. Pattycake is not a fan of other cats and would prefer to be the only little orange kitty you have! This poor baby deserves a wonderful forever home where she will be loved and taken care of. Will you do that for her?
Hi, I'm Tahiti

Tahiti is a young mom who found herself at a very disreputable 'rescue' in Limerick. She gave birth to a litter of kittens there, of which three survived. They lived in a tiny, dirty cage together for almost five months. Now this 'rescue' is being closed down. A Stray Cat Blues volunteer managed to get the two female kittens, Mai and Tai away from the rescue. The SPCA took Tahiti and her son, Vic, who has a cloudy eye due to untreated e ye infections. They were then given to Stray Cat Blues.
Sticking to the mai tai theme, Tahiti was named this because mai tai (or maita'i) is the Tahitian word for 'good'. Vic was named after the bar in California where the mai tai originated, Trader Vic's.
Tahiti is very sweet. She loves to be petted. She is so petite; she looks like one of her own kittens. She is ready to start a brand new life as a beloved pet. Please give that to her!

Your everyday purchases can support SCBI's caring for homeless kitties!
Anyone who has a Genuardi's card can sign up. To sign up, go to escrip.com, select "Sign-up", and enter Stray Cat Blues as the name of the charity. Then you are asked to provide your name and address (phone number and email address are on the form but are NOT required); in the next screen enter the card number that is printed on your Genuaurdi's card. Every time you use your Genuardi's card, Stray Cat Blues receives up to 3% of the sales total. It costs SCBI nothing and it costs you, the Genuardi's card user, nothing. It is Genuardi's who is the contributor.
Acme shoppers can drop off their receipts at PetsMart in North Wales. Please look for the canister located on the table at our adoption center.
